# The Atelier of the Radical Middle ## A manifesto for young people who don't fit into camps and still want to act *English translation of the founding manifesto. The real problem is that we live amidst too much material and have too few places where it becomes judgment, conviction, and action. School and university still largely train reproduction. Restating. Categorising. Citing. Passing. Precision within the frame of other people's questions. That was already too little before. In a world with AI it becomes definitively barren. Because everything that is merely standardised, repeatable, and formattable becomes cheap. Very cheap. Reproduction becomes cheap. Judgment, originality, taste, responsibility, presence, collaboration, and courage become expensive. So the question is no longer: What do you know? The question is: What can you distinguish? What can you stand up for? What can you bring into the world with others when things become unclear? ## The False Alternative Young people today are often presented with a false choice. Either conformity: résumé optimisation, competence rhetoric, functional compliance, polished self-presentation, becoming marketable as early as possible. Or camp thinking: moral overheating, ideological unambiguity, an identity built for outrage, reflexive enemy images, the comfortable relief of no longer having to think for yourself. Both are insufficient. Conformity makes you useful, but not alive. The camp makes you passionate, but not free. Between the extremes lies not simply the lukewarm middle. There is something else: a stance that neither flees into a camp nor sinks into exhaustion. A stance that endures contradiction, takes reality seriously, and acts nonetheless. We call this the **Radical Middle**. Not the tired middle of administration. Not the dull somewhere-in-between. Not the cowardly equidistance between truth and lies. But a middle that is radical because it must think where others merely react. Because it must connect where others draw lines. Because it must judge where others merely send signals. Because it must act although complete certainty never arrives. Between democracy and authoritarianism there is no reasonable middle. Between dignity and contempt there is no reasonable middle. Between reality and lies there is no reasonable middle. The Radical Middle does not mediate between everything. It distinguishes. The important problems of our time are **wicked problems**: complex, contradictory, not cleanly solvable, not lockable into a single subject. That is why we do not work in subject boxes, but on real tensions. We work in groups, because thinking is social. Not as a feel-good gathering, but as friction. In the group it becomes visible what holds, what is mere posture, what was asserted too quickly, what is still unthought. We work with AI, but not as an oracle. The AI is a sparring partner, an amplifier, a counter-voice, a stress test. It delivers no final truth. It helps you sharpen your thoughts, take counter-arguments seriously, find dead ends faster, and open new perspectives. Those who use AI only to produce output become replaceable. Those who use AI to think better become dangerous to every form of intellectual inertia. We work playfully, but not playfully in the sense of arbitrariness. Play is not the opposite of seriousness. Play is the space in which the new can arise. The space in which you try, risk, fail, rearrange, think further. Without this space no real creativity emerges — only obedient variation. We work publicly wherever possible. Not just for grades, not just for internal assessment, not just for the wastepaper basket. Real questions, real audiences, real consequences. ## What Emerges Here The Atelier does not train opinion carriers. The Atelier trains people who can think and act under uncertainty.
